How Do I Get My Credit Report?

Hector Milla asked:

All consumers can get a free annual credit report but you can make arrangements to have them anytime before the end of the year. This should not be difficult and the good thing is that you can get it for free if you want. You will also be able to see your credit score since the annual reports sent to you do not include the credit scores.

You can get your credit report anytime from the three agencies that compile consumer reports. There are many ways to do this and one of them is to make a call to the agencies using the numbers given and request them to send you the report. All the agencies have their own numbers and you can find them online. The period it takes for you to receive your report will depend on the agency.

The other way is to go online to an authorized website where consumers can access their credit reports. Remember that there are many online sites but not all of them are authorized. Using an official website is one way to safeguard your identity because identity theft cases are very common. You cannot easily ascertain how secure the information you input in an unauthorized site will be. After giving your details, your report will appear on the screen and you can have it printed out.

You can engage the services of a credit monitoring company online so you can be informed anytime there is something unusual going on with your credit cards. This helps to keep identity theft in check. Some of these companies provide free monthly reports as a benefit of subscribing to their monitoring services.

You can also get your credit report through mail. There is an Annual Credit Report Request Form provided for all consumers to fill out their details requesting for the reports. Remember too that you can order a three in one credit report from all the agencies and this is good for comparison purposes. You can make a habit of requesting for your report within short intervals just to check it and make sure all the information is accurate.

The Free Credit Report Scam

Gary Gresham asked:

Every consumer in America has the right to a free credit report once every year by law as of September 2005. But since that law has passed there has been nothing but confusion.

The web sites that say they are offering this so called free credit report, are asking us to give them our credit card information. Does that sound like a free credit report to you?

You may have even given your credit card number to these companies to sign up for a thirty day trial for a credit service that has almost nothing to do with getting your free credit report.

In all fairness, you can cancel this service after thirty days. But how many people do you think forget and end up with monthly or even annual credit card charges?

In fact, these companies are counting on you forgetting about the thirty day trial and charging that fee on your credit card. But if the law says you get a free report, what’s the deal?

A lot of people are confused about these free credit reports because of how some companies are marketing the free credit report. Hopefully, this information will clear a few things up for you.

For people who just want the bottom line, a free credit report is available at http://www.AnnualCreditReport.com and this is the only official site that helps consumers to obtain their annual free credit report.

This site’s security protocols are excellent with physical and technological security and encryption. That’s important for identity theft purposes because the information on your credit report should be seen by your eyes only.

So if this site is readily available and anyone can get a free credit report once a year, what’s the catch? Here is the catch: the credit report you get from http://www.AnnualCreditReport.com does not have any credit scores.

Now you may be asking, “Then what good is getting this free credit report without a credit score?” There are a few good reasons why you may want to look at your credit report even without a credit score.

Did you know that more than forty percent of all credit reports have errors? If you spot these errors, you can get them cleared up before it affects your credit score. If you contact a credit bureau about an error, they have to clear it up or remove it after thirty days by law.

If you monitor and review your credit report, you can check to be sure that you are not a victim of identity theft. If someone takes over your accounts and charges up thousands of dollars in debt, they can destroy your credit score in a matter of hours.

These are just a couple of good reasons why you want to get your free credit report once a year and inspect it just to be sure everything looks like it should. You can get your free credit report online at http://www.AnnualCreditReport.com or by phone or through the mail.

So where do you get your credit score from? This is where the confusion comes in and here is the answer. The law Congress passed did not say anything about a credit score just one free credit report a year per consumer.

You have to pay a service to get your credit score and some companies are confusing people with the way they are marketing this. They offer you a free credit report and score and many consumers believe it’s their annual free credit report.

But if you have to sign up for a credit service they offer for a 30 day trial period, does that sound free? What these companies are counting on is you forgetting about the 30 day trial and charging a fee on your credit card once that trial period is over.

It’s in the fine print, but how many people actually read that. So here is a good common sense rule of thumb. Any time you have to give your credit card information, ask yourself, “is this really free?”

Many of you probably know this is happening because you have been trapped with this kind of marketing tactic. But for those of you that just want your annual free credit report, you can at least be aware as to what is really going on and have a no nonsense way to get it.

Credit Worthiness

Vinodh Pushparaj asked:

Credit Worthiness is an important business and personal asset each person has to manage. I mean this is an asset which could make or break business relationships and interestingly in some cases personal relationships. This is a complex abstract thing that is evaluated in many ways by different entities. What factors contribute to the credit worthiness is really dependent on the case for which this is evaluated. Mostly for small debts or purchases the credit worthiness is just a credit card reference, but for larger one it starts with that but really ends with a personal visit by evaluators. The typical purchases where your credit worthiness dictates your payment terms are credit cards, real estate purchases, business credit, and any type of loans. This is also used to judge the qualification of foster parents, just to mention a diverse application of the concept. Given that the number of factors that contribute to this worthiness, it is worth noting the few important ones. And try to make sure your credit worthiness is in the positive side.

The first and foremost thing that companies and entities use to evaluate credit worthiness is the credit history. This can give your entire buying pattern till the current amount owed to others. The main factor that people are looking for is your payment pattern. They are interested in knowing if you missed any payments, got some cancelled due to non payments. These comments are added to the credit history. To make sure you are not penalized erroneously you got to be on a constant lookout for your credit history report. There are many companies which offer the alerting service when there are remarks added to your credit history. If you are planning on big purchases then you would like to make sure you subscribe to one of these services. The more accounts you have managed to acquire and positively closed, the more you are credit worthy. There is one more mechanism that companies use known as credit circles where they share the payment history of the clients and customers. It is very important that you make the regular minimum without fail and please do subscribe to the auto-pay for the minimum payments.

The other important things employed are bank references, and when appropriate trade references. The one more important thing to understand is that you may provide any number of references but the companies typically just give weight to 50% of the references only. They know that people don’t give references to transactions where even a bit of negative energy. They give out positive references only, so the companies actively go out to fetch references. Once you make sure you have a good credit worthiness it is important to make a comparison shop when applying for any type of loan, mortgage etc. There are some good websites that take the pain out of completing 20 different forms and maintaining contact with so many folks. It has become a lot easier to get the best terms for your credit application.

Conduct a Credit Cards Comparison to Acquire the Top Offers

Zach Ballard asked:

When you are prepared to perform a credit cards comparison to get the card that is suitable for you personally precisely what will you be taking into consideration? First, the Annual Percentage Rate is definitely an element which should be taken into account.

This can be zero percent if you happen to move an account balance from their existing credit card and submit their invoices promptly. The time period will be different pertaining to the 0% rate but it can end up being from three months to a year and a half, depending upon the creditor.

Any time you carry a balance on your account, as most consumers do, the annual percentage rates will probably be higher for some creditors as compared with others. A credit cards comparison that enables you to evaluate and compare and contrast these deals can often make it possible for the consumer to obtain a more affordable annual percentage rate. Many consumers won’t do that because they become stressed out by the multitude of credit cards currently available.

Something else that people should be looking at in terms of the advantages of different offers are the perks they feature. Do they feature cash rebates or rewards points? Does the card supply benefits for the things that you regularly use, along the lines of fuel, groceries or shopping on the web? What annual percentage rate will they impose for cash advances?

If you usually use your card to acquire cash advances a lot, you must look for the best annual percentage rate readily available for that as well. This is certainly one specific interest rate that’s generally more expensive compared to the rates billed pertaining to acquisitions.

One credit card may feature very considerable savings when it comes to their APRs, just to impose tremendously costly annual fees. Just how should you recognize what type will likely be the best for you? You should do a credit cards comparison, without a doubt.

Checking the terms and conditions is one way of not learning down the road that you really did not acquire the deal you may have assumed you were receiving. This is why small print exists and the faster you understand this fact, the better your likelihood of picking up the credit card which has more of what you want and will need in a bank card.

In regards to completing a credit cards comparison the lowest annual percentage rates provided by financial institutions like Citi cards may very well be governed by rigid specifications. The applicant could possibly be required to possess a specific income and maintain a particular overall credit score. In case you comply with these specifications, you will be offered the very best APRs and there will be many companies that will be hoping to get your business.

How to Get an Online Cheap Credit Report!

Randall White asked:

One question which comes to the mind of every individual is how to get a cheap credit report. There are a majority of people who get their report for free every year from three credit agencies, which include Equifax, Experian and the Trans Union or you can put a request to them to issue your credit report. The reporting agencies give the report through a phone number and address or by a phone number. For issuing a report, you should give your basic information which includes your full name, date of birth, address, social security number and your credit card number.

There are annual credit report websites where you can visit and place an order for report. You can also call them on their toll-free lines. It costs you nothing; just fill out an application provided online and enter your log in password. All you need to do is answer few questions you’ll be asked to give your credit card number. But if you want to call then you have to provide your complete identification from the company you want it from. It takes only five days to mail you the report. You can also get the annual cheap credit report the same way, but it will take fifteen days to be mailed by credit card reporting agency. You should remember one thing here, however. If you want to get a free online credit report then you have to access centralized agencies to avoid being charged a fee. So you should make direct access to agencies. You should also know that your report contains information on auto loans, mortgage payments, history of all payments and repayments you have made.

It is important to note here that you have to make sure that your financial report is free from error and inaccuracies, which is most common trend and happens quite often. So you have to check your report thoroughly and if you find any errors, inform the relevant agency by sending the proofs and make its correction immediately. The problem with these errors arise when you are deprived of getting a loan, credit, insurance or employment. Any of these situations show how important it is to get a cheap credit report. With errors on your report, you don’t have to waste time and you should contact credit reporting agency within sixty days of denial for a report. Only you are authorized to collect your report but if you have any problems and cannot collect them your employer can also collect your report, but only with your consent in written form. There are many businesses which can get their client’s reports online, but they should have to check with service providers before doing so.

New 2010 FICO Credit Score Changes

Hector Milla asked:

Every individual is entitled to one free credit report every year from each of the three major credit bureaus Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. The companies have long opened their doors in support of individuals wanting to keep track of what is happening in their own financial world. Any individuals report will contain a score. This so called credit score is meant to indicate how much of a risk the borrower will pose to a lender by rating the borrowers past habits of bill payment, and scoring them.

To receive a score, the individuals past information is sent through a system called the FICO model, which will evaluate the numbers received, and present the assigned credit bureau with the appropriate score. If a borrower requests such a score of any individual from one of the bureaus, the requester will have to pay a fee to the assigned bureau, where the bureau in turn will pay FICO to calculate the score.

Recently, a new way of calculating individual credit scores has been introduced by a new company. The new scoring system is meant to either lower the price FICO charges for its services to the credit bureaus, or to cut this service completely by being able to score individuals information without the middle man.

The new system looks much like an Elementary School Report Card:
Where 900-990 equals A,
801-900 equals B
701-800 equals C
601-700 equals D, and
501-600 equals F

FICA’s scoring system ranges from 300 to 850, where a score above 700 usually means that an individual will pose a low risk to the lender.

The new scoring system has caused for some controversy amongst borrowers because of individuals who would have scored well within a 701-800 score in the past are now being rated within the in C score. The new scoring system is also causing confusion for lenders since they must possibly start to read between the ranks in order not to rank an individual within a lower lending category he or she would have been entitled to when based on the FICA model. This new company, like others, has yet to be tested in comparison to FICO, which means that the final conclusion of whether one is better then the other is still missing. It do seems however, that this new company might present a more reliable rating system when basing a lending decision with any borrower.

Cheap Credit Report – The Value of Frequently Checking Your Credit Score

Randall White asked:

Many people are aware that everyone is entitled to one free credit report per year from the three major credit bureaus. However, most of these people don’t realize the value in getting your report more often than just once a year. It is very obvious that your credit status always changes and everyone needs to know the most recent status of their credit and only one time in the whole year is not enough to keep an eye on your financial status. Having your report online gives the opportunity to those people who are very curious about their financial status and want to monitor it on a more frequent basis. Having a cheap credit report is very beneficial and it really isn’t that difficult to get. It gives the opportunity to the person to maintain or improve their credit and it also can save him or her from the shame of the rejected rental request and denied loan applications. There are many benefits to having a cheap credit report on a regular basis.

It is human nature to forget things, even the most important things. It is very normal and sometimes we forget some bills that we have to pay. There are many other things on our mind and we commit the negligence of the important responsibilities like paying the bills. This can do much more serious damage to your credit score than you may realize. With an online cheap credit report, it is easier than ever to keep close track of the damage forgetting to pay a bill may do and allow you to fix it immediately. Most people are not aware of cheap credit reports and they do not check theirs on the regular basis. If you monitor reports then you can save yourself from the denial of a loan request, mortgage, or car purchase.

Cheap credit reports can also save your life if you monitor it. Now you must be thinking that isn’t possible, but it is true that there are some companies which also consider the credit status of their employees. They can even disqualify you for the job in which you are interested in if they come to know that you have the poor financial status or you do not pay your bills on time.

These valuable reports can also save money and time. Identity theft is more common than ever and the process of getting your identity back is incredibly long and difficult. A cheap credit report allows you to keep an up to date track of any purchases made under your name. Sometimes the agencies also make a mistake while making the report. So, if you check the report frequently then you can quickly solve the problem.
